Gothic Grandeur Meets Family Fun
The Story
Part of the Alton Towers Resort but far more than a theme park hotel. The Gothic-inspired architecture is dramatic, rooms are themed and fun, and the spa is excellent. A great option for families who want more than roller coasters.

What they say
“First thing is staff are very good! Thats what makes the experience a 5 star one! Rooms are amazing! Very comfortable with all the ambiance you could hope for. However the noise from hallways is as if there is no door on your room at all. Staff are very helpful and obviously knowledgeable about the hotel and how to help. The food in the evening was top notch, really enjoyed the buffet carvery!! Every area of the hotel is an experience and they've really gone all out on the decor!”
“The drive there is always interesting. Make sure your car can handle climbs. Was initially booked to stay at Splashlands but upgraded to Alton towers Hotel itself because our previous room had a funky smell. The difference in room quality is pretty obvious; Alton towers hotels rooms are pretty spacious and well decorated. Room came with a large cuddly teddy bear for the little one. Really good deal including dinner and breakfast.”
“We stayed 3rd floor room 347 for 2 nights... the window is sealed shut (not just locked) and the room therefore does not smell fresh as seems it has not been aired for years so doesn't feel clean and gets very hot in the night. The air con was extremely noisy, chugging regularly but is needed so we did not sleep well. The sink does not drain properly. I politely mentioned these issues to guest services when they asked how our stay was at checkout, as felt they were things that could be improved for future guests, but I did not get the impression they would be doing anything to fix these issues. Also, the entertainment from below is extremely loud in this room til 10pm so not ideal with young children. It was quiet after that (apart from the very noisy air con which kept waking us all up). The decor is fun (although dark) and the kids liked the bunk beds. We have stayed at this hotel several times in recent years and it's been a similar experience but due to the convenience for the theme park, we have returned. If we go to Alton Towers again we will stay off site as have not seen any improvements to the hotel or restaurants, and it seems costs are cut further each year which is disappointing. The theme park is great so we had a good trip.”
“Another Santa Sleepover and every year it doesn't disappoint! Our son is autistic and has additional complex needs, all of the staff are so understanding and helpful. Highly recommend The Secret Garden restaurant, the food was fantastic and you never had to wait long for the buffet to be refilled. Lovely staff, comfy beds, and great entertainment.”
“Very hesitant to leave a review (I’ll add I never do this but I felt I had to) I’ve stayed at this resort several times in the different resorts. Including Christmas 2024 & 2025. Being very excited with 3 small children, I’ve found Christmas 2025 to be no way near as good as 24. With the price increasing and the whole stay becoming more poor. The prices are absolutely ridiculous £8 for the cheapest pint of beer, the food was poor , at breakfast it was frozen bread I understand but atleast Thor it out fully before putting it out. Picking up the bread with frozen lumps in the middle, waterd down Apple & orange juice & not enough things out so was always something missing waiting letting breakfast go cold before the missing items come out. The cook was lovely but looked stressed & rushed off her feet. The beds are comfy in the room and room was clean but found the whole experience really poor for the £600+ I payed for one night!! One of my children are SEN & with booking only 2 days prior I was told at guest services there wasn’t anything I’d be able to do with the fast track options as they were at ‘full capacity’ however upon walking round the very few rides open there were no people even waiting at the fast track gates???? The fast track for the splash landings wasn’t very fast either I do think this needs a review as still having to Que and the busyness of it is very overwhelming & we had a few meltdowns. I wouldn’t be staying again for the Christmas sleepover as I really don’t think it’s worth the money. I wouldn’t pay anymore than £250/300 I think the price was ridiculous”
