“Review of The Sandbanks Hotel, Barmouth (Room 8) I visit Barmouth every autumn, but this was my first time staying at The Sandbanks. Overall, it was a mixed experience, though I would still recommend the hotel. ✨ Highlights The location is excellent—right on Marine Parade, just a short walk from the town centre and train station. Staff were welcoming and friendly throughout my stay, which made a great impression. Breakfast exceeded expectations: a hearty cooked option alongside self-service toast, cereals, fruit, and tea/coffee. My room had a sea view, which is always a treat. The bed was very comfortable, the shower excellent, and the heating worked well, keeping the room warm even during wet and windy weather. ⚠️ Areas for Improvement While the room and bathroom were spotless, the décor is dated and in need of renovation. The door lock was faulty, and the window leaked during heavy rain, forcing me to use towels on the sill. Some walls looked a little grubby, and the floorboards were noisy. 🌊 Final Thoughts For the price I paid, the positives outweighed the negatives. Since I mainly used the hotel for sleeping overnight and enjoying breakfast before heading out to explore the Cambrian Coast, the issues didn’t spoil my stay. If you’re looking for a short break in the area and can secure a good rate, The Sandbanks is a solid choice—just go in with realistic expectations.”

“First time staying, and last time. Hotel looks great. Bar area nice and busy. Great atmosphere. The room. Outdated. Definitely needed some TLC and full working bathroom door that doesnt take two people to close it. stayed in room 7, sea front view. The view was fantastic. Straight clear view of the wonderful Barmouth beach. Very very very cold room tho. The hotel had heating off 80% of the time. For the price paid, I would have liked to have a warm room especially on a very wet and windy cold night”
“Sea View - A dirty old window Furniture - Barely holding together, Hygiene - Dirty Floors, Urine around the toilets and the paper, unclean paint jobs Temperature - Cold, heating off + no hot water. For the price you pay, you would except the bare minimum. Just kindly stay away.”
“The hotel is ideally located, close to the town, and the staff are lovely. The restaurant / bar is pleasant. But the rooms are terrible. The hotel needs updating I. E investment. Probably not fit for road workers working away, let alone couples. Take a look at the pics and judge for yourself! The lights in the bar could not be switched on as the staff didn't have bulbs for our area. Poor!”
