Morston Hall in Morston, Norfolk — Country House Hotel

Morston, Norfolk

Norfolk's Most Quietly Extraordinary Escape

Where Michelin-starred heritage meets the wild romance of the North Norfolk coast.

Tucked behind the salt marshes of the North Norfolk coast, Morston Hall is that rare thing: a country house hotel that earns its reputation quietly, through 35 years of doing things exceptionally well. With just 13 individually styled rooms, this is no grand estate playing to the gallery — it is intimate, considered, and utterly charming. Manicured gardens give way to the wild sweep of Norfolk's coastline, and the whole place carries the unhurried mood of somewhere that has never needed to try too hard.

What They Say

I had high hopes for afternoon tea here, but unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we didn’t feel welcomed. The waitress was not attentive, barely smiled, and came across as quite unfriendly — surprising, especially considering the restaurant was nearly empty. Despite how quiet it was, we were left for long periods without any drinks, and the waitress was nowhere to be seen for most of our visit. It felt like we were completely forgotten. The food itself was OK, nothing special. I've honestly had tastier food at a local garden centre Afternoon tea should feel like a relaxing treat, but this felt more like an inconvenience — for both us and, apparently, the staff. Would not recommend based on this experience.

We went for the 7 course taster meal and it started off so well with lovely canopies in the beautiful garden with its stunning fig trees. Although the food was all locally sourced some of the dishes could have been a bit better we feel as the canopies had so much lovely flavour that some of the other dishes lacked that and were too simple, but that’s our opinion. Staff were amazing with great knowledge of the produce and the wine. I would like to go back to try the proper menu.

We were out here to celebrate my birthday and hands-down one of the best 1-star Michelin restaurants out there . While the service was exceptional- the food was extraordinary. The experience , the quality of the produce , the temperature of the dishes and the effort of the Chefs was obvious in every dish. It is a must visit if in Norfolk . We are definitely coming back !!!

3 of us had the Monday night menu. Everything was delicious, the service excellent and loved the personal touch from the chef himself. Highlights included the canapés, so much flavour packed into one mouthful! Crab and lobster raviolo amazing, the beef main course was tender and delicious. We’ll be back for the full tasting menu next time we’re in Norfolk

If this Michelin star food, wow. The place idyllic, the staff were a delight, but the food and the cost were a joke. £350 for two for a tasting plate of 7 courses, of which i can only say were average at best. One course, the main, of roasted duck, my wife could not eat, and i could not chew enough to be able to swallow. The canapes were fine, but not exceptional: the rest, apart from a risotto, which was excellent, were just about ok. I did mention the chewy duck I returned to my plate, and the waitress did say she would mention it, but there was no response. Giving us a water carafe with chips around the top is not what you should see in Wilf's cafe, let alone a supposedly top quality restaurant: I wish I had taken a photo of the duck and the carafe. Finally, not sure how they can charge £14 each for two 125ml glasses of wine, no better than what you would pick up in a supermarket. Glad I had the experience. I won't ever return
