No. 131 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire — Georgian Townhouse

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Cheltenham's Most Gloriously Indulgent Townhouse

Where Georgian grandeur meets midnight revelry and very good fries.

Tucked into the elegant sweep of Cheltenham's Georgian streetscape, No. 131 is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with a flight. This handsome townhouse wears its heritage lightly — all high ceilings and period charm — but there's nothing stuffy about it. Arrive to find homemade cookies waiting and a hot-water bottle already tucked into your bed, and you'll understand immediately that this is hospitality done with genuine warmth rather than corporate polish.

The food alone justifies the journey. Pull up a chair for steak and those legendary duck-fat fries, the sort of dish that ruins all future fries for you entirely, and linger over hot milk whisked into velvety chocolate as the evening slows. Then, just when you think the night is winding down, Crazy Eights bar reveals itself — buzzing, brilliantly lively, and utterly unexpected beneath such a refined roof. It buzzes until dawn, and you will almost certainly stay longer than you planned.

No. 131 strikes a rare balance: romantic enough for couples seeking a weekend escape, indulgent enough for devoted foodies, and spirited enough for those who like their getaway to carry a little after-dark electricity. The Cotswolds has no shortage of beautiful places to rest your head, but few that manage to be this convivial, this delicious, and this much fun all at once. Book it before someone else does.

We recently got married here- superb experience from start to finish. Cannot thank the staff enough. Particularly Georgie and Meg for their organisation and constant smiles! Big thanks to Henry the Chef - everyone is still raving about the food! Highly recommend this venue!

ALL STYLE, ZERO SUBSTANCE. It's not when things go right that you get to see the true nature of a business. It's when they go wrong... and if they go wrong here, just be aware that you should think yourself lucky that you're being allowed to spend your hard earned money here and walk the same floorboards as these people. If you're a potential customer of no.131 and Yoku, all you need to know is that you are signing up to pay boutique prices for 1 star service. For context, I don't write many reviews. I have my own business and know how damaging they can be. All of my google reviews are 5 star for occasions worthy of praise. However, I make an exception for No.131 / Yoku because every now and again you come across something so completely sub-par that it's truly deserved. My experience was actually insulting...which is worsened by the fact this place claims to be high-end and boutique. There are clearly no livelihoods at stake here and that reflected in the service received. The complaint I raised with them is too detailed to go into, but they have it all there to review. I've been given the strong impression that they simply just dont care though. Conclusion: Nice interior design.

Had a lovely late lunch here on Friday 5th December 2025. Weather was absolutely horrendous outside with the wind / rain battering the tents where we were sitted inside. The staff looking after us were lovely, didn't have to wait long for the starters. The 3 course festive meal I had was very nice and my Steak was cooked to perfection. (Very little fat on the piece of steak which I prefer) Although the overall bill was expensive just for 2 people (£96) I didn't mind paying as the food and service was excellent. If you are a non drinker and just want Water make sure you specify tap water as the small bottles of still water they will bring you are VERY expensive!!! Hopefully going forward once the tents / marquee's have been replaced with a proper structure the overall experience eating outside @131 will be a lot better...

Held our first office Christmas meal here, shame this restaurant spoilt it for us. Staff clearly untrained and definitely not managed. Starters and mains fairly slow to arrive and clear away, desert menus presented and before we could read through we were rudely asked “are you ordering desserts or not because we need your table in 10 minutes” Nice food spoilt by bad service.
