Oxwich, Gower
Where Wales Meets the Waves
Beachfront simplicity, Gower soul — a staycation that needs no passport.
Tucked against the golden sands of one of the Gower Peninsula's most breathtaking bays, Oxwich Bay Hotel is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever considered leaving these shores for anywhere else. The hotel sits directly on the beachfront, offering uninterrupted sea views that shift from silver-grey to shimmering gold depending on the light — and the mood of the Welsh sky above. It is, in the most honest and heartfelt sense, a proper seaside escape.
Whether you arrive with sandy-footed children in tow, a beloved four-legged companion, or simply a long-held desire to walk coastal paths without agenda, Oxwich Bay Hotel has arranged itself thoughtfully around your needs. The Café Bar and Bistro opens from eight in the morning — ideal for fuelling up before a bracing beach walk — and transitions seamlessly into an evening dining destination where fresh, considered cooking meets views worth lingering over. The dog-friendly snug, warmly referenced by guests time and again, feels like the kind of nook a travel writer would claim as their own for a rainy afternoon.
At a mid-range price point, Oxwich Bay punches comfortably above its bracket in atmosphere and setting. This is not a hotel trying to be something it isn't — it is simply a beautifully positioned retreat that understands the quiet power of a great beach, genuine hospitality, and a meal eaten within earshot of the tide. Book it before someone else does.

What They Say
“We had our wedding reception at Oxwich last summer and it was the most incredible day! The view speaks for itself as it is truly incredible from the marquee. The staff were great and the food was fab! Sophie, our wedding coordinator, was an angel - nothing was too much for her! We had quite a few requests (scones instead of a cake, flip flops, lights, towels, non alcoholic toasts and food) and everything we asked was met with a ‘yeah of course’. She set up our decorations so beautifully that I cried and she seemed genuinely excited for us the entire time, which I know is not always the case at other venues. Oxwich really look after you in the run up to the wedding. We could book meetings any time we had questions and emails were responded to quickly. On the surface, the price may seem a little higher than other places but it’s important to note that there are so many extras included that you need to pay for on top at other venues. For example, the DJ, table decorations, napkins/seat bows, memory ladder, postbox, cake stand, wedding taster, honeymoon suite, evening buffet for day guests were all included as standard, which made it very good value for money and a lot less stressful. You could literally say ‘I want pink bows’ and it would be sorted for you and there on the day. The breakfast the next day was great, the honeymoon suite with jacuzzi bath was amazing and being a few steps from the sand was just perfect. Beautiful grassy areas and sandy beach give a huge range of options for photos. We even ended up in the sea at the end of the party! If you’re looking for a beach themed wedding in south wales with an incredible backdrop, this is the place to go!”
“Had a wonderful bed, breakfast and dinner stay. The staff really stood out as excellent, with nothing too much trouble. Love the fact that there were fires lit everywhere and the whole hotel felt really welcoming. A right little winter treat! I did notice a recent review say that they no longer do campervan stopovers. That's not true, as I asked about it for future reference for ourselves and they were really happy to tell me all about it....you just need to call in advance and pre-book a table for either dinner or breakfast to stay overnight in their carpark.”
“We went to our nephews wedding on Monday. The location was beautiful and so was the hotel. The wedding room was absolutely stunning too. The food in hotel was abit pricey. But they was still very busy. There wedding reception was in a marquee which was also very pretty it came with nice bar plus toilets and was quiet big inside aswell. Would recommend this place for holiday or even weddings.”
“Just had Christmas Dinner and a visit with santa and Mrs claws. Absolutely fantastic the best Santa and Mrs Claus we have seen the whole of this December and we have visited four. Christmas Dinner was nice as well staff are friendly polite. Santa 🎅 was amazing”
“Party of four called in just for a warm drink on a cold New Year's Day. We had a couple of dogs so sat outside. We queued for quite a while to order coffee as it was busy. The coffee hadn't arrived after 30 min so we chased it and were told it would be 5 mins. After 10 mins we chased again, there was no queue by that stage, several members of staff chatting, and no one making coffee so we asked for our money back. The manager did this without any problem but his attitude was poor, not a word was spoken to us, and certainly no apology. It seems that customer services was very low on their list. I won't be going there again.”
