Ludlow's Quietly Brilliant Country Retreat
Where Shropshire's larder meets Orangery elegance and time slows to a gentler pace.
Perched on the edge of one of England's most celebrated market towns, The Cliffe at Dinham offers a quietly refined retreat that feels worlds away from the ordinary. The hotel's gracious country-house character sets a tone of unhurried elegance, with its spacious lounge bar providing the perfect sanctuary to sink into after a stroll through Ludlow's medieval streets. There's a warmth here that feels genuinely welcoming rather than performative β the kind of place that earns its loyal following through understated charm.
For those who travel with their appetites, The Cliffe delivers with quiet confidence. The AA-Rosette restaurant, housed within a beautiful Orangery, is the undisputed heart of the property β a light-filled space where seasonal ingredients are treated with care and the menu reflects the exceptional larder that Shropshire's countryside provides. Whether you linger over a long Sunday lunch or settle in for a candlelit dinner, the experience is one that food lovers will return to again and again.
The Terrace Room and thoughtfully appointed communal spaces make this an ideal choice for couples seeking a restorative weekend escape without sacrificing quality. At a mid-range price point, The Cliffe at Dinham represents genuine value in the luxury staycation landscape β a property that punches well above its tier and leaves guests with the distinct impression that they've discovered something rather special.

What They Say
βWe have stayed here before and werenβt disappointed during this stay. The rooms are of a high standard and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Our meal was amazing- the venison and cheese board were especially enjoyable. We will definitely be returning again soon.β
βNice accommodation and peaceful location. Very disappointing in the lack of vegan/plant-based options for breakfast. Please explicitly write your vegan options on the printed breakfast menu. I recommend plant-based sausages and plant-based bacon, and of course Flora spread and oat milk.β
βJust outside of town. Only an 8 minute walk up hill to town and castle. Stayed in the outer building. Room was a little small, But fantastic shower. Mobile and WiFi very poor, as well as free view. Basic breakfast.β
βComfy bed and nice room with bath (I requested a bath and got one - thank you!). Nice view from room (we were on the top floor). Only downside was it was a bit chilly - the heating never came on in the bedroom or bathroom (the lady downstairs at breakfast said it should be on a timer). Great location - easy walk into Ludlow (obvs you have to climb a hill π). Breakfast was delicious - poached eggs were perfect. Thanks!β

Just a pity the races on monday was cancelled.β
