The Megaro Hotel in King's Cross, London — Boutique Hotel

King's Cross, London

Rebellion Never Looked So Inviting

Where bold colour and restless spirit collide beneath the King's Cross skyline.

Tucked boldly across from the grand Victorian arches of King's Cross station, The Megaro Hotel is a delicious antidote to London's sea of beige business hotels. This spirited boutique property wears its personality on its sleeve — vivid, unapologetic colour saturates every corner, and a rebellious creative edge runs through the design like a current of electricity. It is the sort of place that makes you feel something the moment you step through the door, and that is a rarer gift than most travellers realise.

For those passing through King's Cross — whether catching an early Eurostar or simply using the neighbourhood as a launchpad for London's cultural riches — The Megaro offers a genuinely memorable base without demanding a fortune in return. The mid-range positioning is clever; guests receive boutique character and considered design at a price point that leaves room in the budget for the city itself. Nothing here feels accidental or corporate, and that intentionality is quietly luxurious in its own right.

We would particularly recommend The Megaro to the traveller who finds white walls and neutral palettes quietly suffocating — the aesthete who believes a hotel room should spark joy rather than simply provide shelter. Quirky, characterful, and utterly uninterested in blending in, this is one of London's most quietly compelling staycation addresses.

The rooms are stylish, comfortable, and thoughtfully appointed, making it easy to relax after a long day of travel. What truly stood out was the staff—professional, kind, and genuinely helpful. Every interaction felt welcoming, and they went out of their way to make my stay smooth and enjoyable. The overall atmosphere is modern yet warm, with great attention to detail throughout the property. Came to Megaro for the first time and arrived around 12pm to try my luck with an early check-in. I was told to come back later as the room wasn’t quite ready. After going out for lunch, I returned around 2pm, but the room was still not available due to an issue with the corner studio room I had booked. The receptionist asked whether I specifically wanted the corner studio, and since that was what I had booked, I said yes. He then kindly offered to upgrade us to a suite instead, as one was already ready, rather than having us wait another 30 minutes to an hour. This was extremely nice of him. Despite having paid for the room in full online, I was required to put down a £100 deposit at check-in. The suite was a pleasant surprise for both my partner and me. It was fairly spacious and included a wardrobe, a makeup desk, a TV area with a sofa and two chairs, and an extra-large double bed. The bathroom layout felt a bit strange, as there wasn’t much counter space. The shower design was also confusing—regardless of which shower head we used, a significant amount of water splashed out, leaving the bathroom quite drenched on multiple occasions. While I could appreciate the overall design of the room, it felt a little odd, and I think the curtains contributed to that feeling. The AC unit was quite disappointing. Even on the coolest setting (18°C) with the fan on maximum, there was barely any airflow and the room didn’t feel cooler. We tried various settings and even contacted the front desk, but were told that this was the highest setting possible. Since we were only staying for three nights and were out most of the time, we didn’t pursue it further after that initial call. We did make use of the minibar, and the snacks and drinks were fantastic—perfect for a late-night movie session. We did some basic cleaning of the utensils before using them, as most travellers would, but they appeared to be quite clean. The location of the hotel is absolutely fantastic and is arguably its biggest selling point. It’s extremely convenient for accessing train stations and the underground, which we made great use of throughout our stay. Overall, the staff were excellent. While the rooms had some odd design choices and the AC was poor, they were still relatively comfortable. We were given a complimentary glass of prosecco, which was a nice touch. The partner restaurant, Spagnoletti, was good but felt a bit overpriced for what it offered. The WiFi was fast, which was a plus. Considering the location, the price was very reasonable. The hotel felt more like a mid-range 4-star property. Points were taken off for the room, bathroom design, and restaurant, but the location and staff made the stay worthwhile. Despite the disappointments, I would still recommend this hotel due to its excellent location, while the rooms remain acceptably comfortable overall.

This hotel was beautifully decorated with a very well done and chic aesthetic. The gentleman who checked us in was very welcoming and helpful. We had plans to walk down the road for a bite, and he recommended their Italian restaurant on site and their cocktail bar downstairs. The restaurant was also very well decorated and we ordered sharers. Everything was great and they were the best potato croquettes we’ve ever had- says a lot being in the UK. The service was also excellent. The downstairs hotel bar was also beautifully decorated with excellent cocktails. Finally, it is across the street from Kings Cross so it is an excellent place to base for enjoying the city. We visit London often and this will now be a regular choice.

Found this little gem when we went to see ABBA voyage. First impressions walking I was the incredible attention to detail in the decor. Kinda steampunk mixed with industrial vibe with various mouse characters around ( see pics) Greated by a super polite helpful chap on reception who engaged in great conversation and made us feel very welcome. If you arrive early they have secure luggage storage however our room was ready despite us arriving 3 hours before checkin (3pm) Hotel room was awesome very quirky theme and everything was spotlessly clean. Various free snacks and drinks available in the mini bar should you be peckish. Had a great stay here and I think it will become our new preferred hotel as it's very accessible from kings cross/ st pancras. Also it has a great bar and a restaurant attached where we had breakfast. See my other review of that.... Don't hesitate to book this up, you won't be disappointed.

We hosted a really important event at their bar Hokus Pokus and I cannot recommend this venue enough. Apart from being an incredibly beautiful venue, the drinks and food were amazing and the staff were beyond kind and accommodating. I could not recommend hosting events here enough and I also love going as a general customer - such a vibey place and super special for a fun night out.
