Pensford, Somerset
Rooted, Rustic, Utterly Irresistible
Where Somerset's larder becomes your love language.
Tucked into the gentle folds of the Mendip Hills, THE PIG near Bath is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with a passport. This characterful Somerset farmhouse hums with a quiet, unhurried confidence — crackling fires in the drawing rooms, fallow deer drifting across a 30-acre park beyond the conservatory windows, and chickens in the Kitchen Garden laying the eggs that will appear, still warm, on your breakfast plate. It is a property that doesn't try to impress you so much as simply enchant you, one thoughtful detail at a time.

What They Say
“Went for a meal only. The staff were very polite and helpful. Had the set menu, soup and cottage pie. The soup was amazing, the cottage pie was very tasty but was a very small portion, could have had more pie than vegetables. Would recommend to book, it was very busy when we went for lunch. Would go back for a special treat and a walk around the grounds. When I visited it was persistent rain.”
“An amazing dining experience, all locally produced ingredients, supremely cooked, a beautiful place in its own right and literally on my door step. The staff were excellent, well trained, polite and friendly. There's a warmth to this place that can only really be described by visiting, which I whole heartedly recommend”
“The Pig recently held a beautiful feast for 36 of our closest friends and family for a special occasion, and we couldn't be more delighted with the experience. From start to finish, everything was handled with care, warmth, and genuine hospitality. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating an atmosphere that felt relaxed, joyful, and effortlessly smooth. The ambiance of the venue was light and magical, and perfectly suited to the spirit of our gathering. It helped that the weather was also stunning. A special thank you to Steff, the manager, who was nothing but accommodating, attentive, and wonderfully personal throughout the entire process. His calm, comforting presence and attention to detail made everything feel seamless and hugely put our minds at ease while organising. And the FOOD — absolutely phenomenal. Guests could not stop raving about the dishes. We are still getting messages 4 weeks on from some of our ‘foodie’ family members about how much they loved it! The chefs prepared a creative array of options for our casual buffet-style feast, each dish as beautifully presented as it was delicious. Every option was crafted with clear expertise and passion, and you could taste it in every bite. We are still glowing from the experience and so grateful to everyone involved for helping create such a memorable occasion. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will remember this day (and the food!) forever.”
“After coming to the Pig with friends for two lunches, celebrating a 40th birthday with a private dinner, and spending Christmas here in 2025, we are still in awe of the Pig near Bath. The hotel itself is very cosy and does feels like home (we are coming back for next Christmas); the food at the restaurant is incredible (we have not been disappointed by anything that comes out of that kitchen); the deer park, the garden and nature surrounding the Pig is truly relaxing. But the one thing that continues to amaze us at the Pig, is the PEOPLE. Ashley, both Sams, Izzy, Daisy, Catherine, Jasmine, Jess , Sophie and everyone else feel like friends now. No request (and we made more than we'd like to admit) felt too big; the attention to detail was incredible (to the point where the house keeping team sneak into your room for a second (!) tidy up of the room while you are having dinner); and the friendly and helpful attitude is contagious. We have felt very special and spoiled, thank you so much for making our time here memorable. M and V.”
“Almost the Pig near Bristol as it’s only .5 mile closer to Bath but Bath sounds much posher to attract a particular clientele. Just returned from an awesome two night stay in a snug room. Room rates are competitive with the rooms being really nicely decorated and comfortable. There’s a chargeable mini-bar too. Check in staff are fab and make feel like part of the Pig family from the get go. The food is amazing and tastes exquisite; this is where I take issue. Most of the produce is grown in their own kitchen garden or sourced locally but you shouldn’t pay through the nose for nice food. The Food bill for 2 people was £146! It’s the same at breakfast too; the breakfast table of toast, coffee, etc is £18 and the cooked offering is £25 Food pricing is basically twice what you should be paying. Even drinks served from the well stocked bar is comparable to other establishments. Having said that the restaurant was packed, food served by a whole host of waiting staff that were very knowledgeable and made you feel right at home. Despite the over priced food I’ll continue my quest to stay at each Pig.”
