Mawgan Porth, Cornwall
Where the Clifftops Breathe
Cornwall's most soulful retreat, where wild Atlantic air and deep eco-luxury meet in magnificent, unhurried harmony.
Perched dramatically above the Atlantic on Cornwall's wild Mawgan Porth clifftops, The Scarlet is that rare thing: a luxury hotel with a genuine conscience and an even more genuine sense of place. This adults-only eco sanctuary strips away the noise of modern life with quiet, considered elegance — rooms that gaze endlessly into shifting blues, hot tubs steaming on clifftop edges, and a reed-filtered natural pool that feels less like a hotel amenity and more like a gift from the landscape itself. The hammam and Ayurvedic treatments complete a spa experience that is holistic in the truest sense, rooted in the rhythms of the natural world rather than the theatre of indulgence.

What They Say
“I've gone to the spa here which was absolutely amazing! (I've not stayed at the hotel so cant review rooms etc) but my spa day/afternoon tea here was the best ever!! The staff were just incredibly kind and nothing was ever a bother, made me feel so lucky and taken care of! The location cannot be beaten over looing the beach! Would 100% recommend for the most amazing treat! :)”
“Stayed at The Scarlett for their Christmas break package in 2025. Have stayed on four previous occasions since around 2011. Seen the hotel evolve and grow in positive directions. This was our best stay yet for many reasons, in summary; * the food has got even better (it was good before) the plant based options were incredible and not an afterthought. Although their meat and fish ethical sourcing policy is very high. For example local trout not salmon on Christmas Day! * the drinks were always the slightly disappointing part, from an ethical standpoint. But not this time, they have so many local spirits, interesting cocktails, sustainable soft options, herbal tea included. * the staff training and quality has gone up a level since our last visit. Not that it was bad in any way. * the hotel has had a refresh including the gardens. Love the extra hot tubs spaces. * spa was an amazing and relaxing as always. * the extra bits for Christmas were well thought through and perfectly executed. Eg reusable crackers make from the dining halls old curtains! In summary if you want an adult only, relaxing and decedent break, in a stunning setting, with the most ethical food and drinks provision I have seen in any hotel, book The Scarlett.”
“Zen, relaxing calm break. The staff were incredibly attentive. Breakfast was an event … we spent two hours over breakfast. Loved the way breakfast wasn’t buffet. Breakfast was very very good. Getting in the sea for a swim in the morning or evening was stunning with the sun setting or rising. The waves brought extra energy. Fantastic cliff top walks. Being very picky … the sauna is far too cool. It was 60c max!! The hot tubs are not included in your stay so have to be booked and paid for separately. We think some should be for residents and be included. This is a meandering hotel and way funding could be a lot better. Overall, an exceptional hotel and experience and would fully recommend.”
“Our second stay here and we loved it just as much as the first time. The hotel staff were all so welcoming, always there when needed. The food both breakfast and dinner was always consistently high quality with plenty of variety. The room made the most of the views as do the top spa facilities. We really did not want to leave and can't wait to return. This hotel is far better than many 5 star hotels we've stayed.”
“We had an excellent stay for our Honeymoon. The reception staff were incredible Daisy in particular helped us over and over. The food was Michelin worthy and we enjoyed the somilier Nathan’s choice of local wines. The spa itself is dreamy. The treatment rooms are where this spa comes into its own it was an exceptional experience. We loved the facial and the relax rooms have some thoughtful lighting. The pond is an absolute must do for all visitors and you may see newts and the snake if you’re lucky! We recommend the beach too, there are rock pools with fish in them, waterfalls and surfing is good too. You can hire a board for £5 from Bettys. Overall the hotel is spotlessly clean.”
