Bamburgh, Northumberland
Castle Views, Coastal Soul
Where Northumberland's wild coast meets timeless castle grandeur.
Few hotels can claim a more commanding backdrop than the Victoria Hotel, tucked beneath the soaring ramparts of Bamburgh Castle on Northumberland's breathtaking coastline. Opt for a Castle View Room and wake to one of England's most stirring sights framed in your window — a medieval fortress rising dramatically above the dunes, with the North Sea glittering beyond. Spacious, comfortable and thoroughly welcoming, the Victoria strikes that rare balance between relaxed coastal charm and genuine warmth, the kind of place where crackling fireplaces and well-poured glasses of something warming make the outside world feel very far away indeed.
Bamburgh itself is a gem of the Northumberland coast, and the Victoria places you at its very heart. Pull on your wellies and stride out across what may well be England's most unspoiled beach, watching the sun dip golden behind Holy Island as the evening draws in. The hotel's famous hearty Northumberland breakfast will fortify you for days spent exploring sea-battered castles, windswept dunes and hidden coastal paths — returning each evening to the kind of attentive, personal service that keeps guests coming back season after season.
With competitive rates and a coveted four-star guest rating, the Victoria Hotel represents exceptional value for a coastal escape of genuine character. Dog-friendly and couple-friendly in equal measure, this is the quintessential Northumberland bolthole — unpretentious, soul-restoring and quietly unforgettable. Book it before someone else does.

What They Say
“We have been staying at The Victoria Hotel since 2014. Just got home from a 4 day Christmas package break which was absolutely perfect. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated and generously proportioned (superior room). All the staff made our stay special. They always had a smile and a welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Our four legged friends enjoyed the special attention from the staff too. The food was excellent. The added bonus was the chocolates , Prosecco and dog treats in our room on arrival which we took to the beach -just a five minute walk away to share with friends on Christmas Day. Thankyou everyone for another memorable stay.”
“Very disappointing. My Dad and I stayed over the Christmas period (Christmas Eve and Christmas night). Christmas Eve food below average. Christmas lunch I thought they would make an effort. Not so, pre-sliced turkey, cold, vegetables 'blah'. Christmas evening buffet, what a joke!!! Sandwiches (tuna, egg mayo, cheese savory and ham), crisps, soup (tomato and basil), Christmas cake/ pies. For two rooms and two nights £1500 completely not worth it. I don't normally do reviews. But, I felt compelled to write about my experience at the Victoria. Accommodation okay, food don't bother, location stunning... Upto you to make an informed decision. Have no expectations.”
“We went in for food and ended up leaving without. I've never met such rude staff in my life. They poured the dregs of a bottle of merlot into a glass and were about to top it up with another. I politely asked if I could have my glass of wine from 1 bottle not a mixture of 2 and I was told no, they needed to use that up first and this was what they normally did. The other barman told me this was my problem not theirs and If I wanted that drink that was how it was being served. So we ended up leaving with nothing. Very disappointing service”
“Just had a fabulous short break here with our 2 dogs. The hotel is absolutely lovely, spotlessly clean and the staff are very welcoming. The food is very good with one of the nicest breakfast buffets I’ve seen. It’s in the centre of Banburgh so very easy to get to the beach/castle/museums. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay. Thank you all at the Victoria”
“Did not stay, but with the layout and the quality of the bar and restaurant I guess the rooms are very good. But tad expensive but it's where you are at in the stunning part of the country, staff friendly and good selection of food and drink. Would still go back”
