Eccentric Surrey Splendour Awaits

Where press baron grandeur meets gloriously untamed English countryside.

Tucked within 400 rolling Surrey acres, Beaverbrook is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with a passport. Once the eccentric private estate of press baron Lord Beaverbrook, this gloriously mismatched country house hotel wears its history with theatrical flair — think four-poster beds alongside unexpected design flourishes that delight rather than disorient. Every corner holds a quiet surprise, and the overall effect is less 'stuffy country pile' and rather more 'brilliant, well-travelled friend's extraordinary home'.

The credentials here are genuinely impressive. A top-tier restaurant ensures that dining is very much part of the experience rather than an afterthought, while a private cinema means rainy Surrey afternoons become something to actively anticipate. For families, the treehouse is an almost unfair trump card — the kind of detail that lodges in a child's memory for years. Couples, meanwhile, will find the rambling grounds and indulgent interiors more than sufficient reason to leave the real world firmly behind.

Beaverbrook sits in that sweet spot where character trumps corporate polish and every stay feels genuinely personal. It is close enough to London to feel delightfully naughty on a long weekend, yet immersive enough that the city dissolves entirely within the first hour. This is a staycation that does not ask you to compromise — and that, in itself, feels rather luxurious.

What They Say

We love coming here, especially when there is an "occasion" on. We've been to cinema nights, balloon dining (several times) and this year's ice skaking. The grounds, buildings and views are spectacular and it has that real luxury retreat feel, I would highly recommend staying and the spa facilities are wonderful. However our last visit did not go as perfectly as we would hope. We were waiting over 45 mins for our food, this is after being told after we ordered that the starter from a very limited set menu is not available (which happens, I understand) to be then waiting 20 minutes for our main to arrive. My wife ordered a pie with a pastry top to then be served a shepherds style pie, we thought it was strange when asked if I could double check the menu (we could've ordered wrong) the staff then looked at us like we were complete idiots. It turns out there is a vegetarian shepherds pie on the main evening menu, on our menu it should be a pastry top. They took it back to the kitchen to then wait another 20 mins. My wife then had to eat it down extremely quickly, I ate half, so we could skate in what ever was left of the daylight. We missed the sunset unfortunately. We will try not to let this experience cloud our judgement of somewhere that we look forward to visiting every time we can, here's to another year of balloon dining I hope.

We had the best stay here. All the staff were amazing and seem to love their jobs. The attention to detail was excellent. It really was perfect. It felt very festive with the ice rink and beautiful Christmas decorations. It's dog friendly, too.

Wonderful stay and very well looked after by the staff. Beautiful grounds and the hotel itself is immaculate. Lots to keep the little guests entertained as well, treehouse playground and daily movies. Can’t wait to be back! The indoor pool and spa area were fantastic.

Wonderful Had lunch at the Garden House, food was delicious the cocktails were top notch. The staff were the best of the best so friendly, it was my Mum’s 80th birthday and they went out of their way to make it special. We were also given a guided tour round the house by a charming knowledgeable girl.

We have been to Beaverbrook for dinner on a few occasions however were left disappointed over Christmas. We booked the dine and skate, arrived before the time of the booking and were presented these two golden tickets for a treat on the ice rink by the gatekeepers before we entered the property. When we got to the ice rink, we were told it was closed and we couldn’t skate. We still had the dinner but the evening had really lost its shine and the food was average.
