What they say

As a hotel guest arriving for a week, you naturally expect a certain standard of positive experience. Instead, you find yourself competing with country club and golf club members for everything — except, of course, the room. The padel courts are fully booked through WhatsApp group chats that the hotel staff don’t even seem to be aware of. The children’s golf camp is completely full — although on Monday there were plenty of spots available — and the email confirming there is no availability arrives just one hour before the session starts. Unsurprisingly, all the children seem very familiar to the coach. Golf tee times for hotel guests are only available from 11 a.m., once again giving priority to the local community. Overall, my advice would be: do not choose this hotel. There are many other places nearby where guests are treated with far greater consideration.

Foxhills has some genuinely strong points, but overall our stay felt inconsistent and poorly communicated, which was disappointing given the price point. The facilities are impressive: our room was large with a generous bathroom, and the wider grounds, tennis courts and sports facilities looked spacious and well maintained. We didn’t use the courts, but it wasn’t clear how to book or access them, as no one explained this on arrival or beforehand. The hotel felt very kid-friendly, there is a free soft play area, although it became extremely chaotic after around 10am. The swimming pool was a real highlight: warm, clean and with plenty of family swim times, which made it very enjoyable with children. However, there were several notable issues that detracted from the experience. We had specifically requested a double bed but were given twin beds. We weren’t given any real information about how to use or book facilities such as the spa, sports courts or children’s activities, despite asking for this in advance, and by the time we arrived, the kids’ activities were fully booked. Other frustrations included requesting a fan for the room that never arrived, attempting to change a restaurant reservation in advance with no response, and then having to speak to three different staff members just to find our table for one booking. Finally, as Foxhills is primarily a members’ club, there was a noticeable divide between members and hotel guests, which affected the overall atmosphere and made us feel slightly secondary. For that reason, despite some positives, I don’t think we’ll be returning.

We went for the Sunday carvery, but we were very disappointed to discover that there was no carvery, and instead all that was on offer was a very limited Sunday lunch, with tiny portion sizes. We were told that the carvery was closed until March, due to the Manor House being closed for renovations and all Sunday lunches moved to a sort of conference room above the clubhouse. This wasn't advertised on the website when we booked, so a huge let down when we arrived. The menu was so limited- literally 3 options (beef wellington, lamb shank and roasted cauliflower). You could only order the 3 course menu- no A La Carte. We managed to strike a deal where we only had 2 courses, and we convinced them to allow us to order our dessert after we had finished our mains, instead of ordering everything at once, which is what we were asked to do when arriving. The food took AGES to arrive and when it did arrive, the portion sizes were minuscule, and a little cold. The desserts were fine, but again, tiny. I had to ask for more toffee sauce for my sticky toffee pudding, because it was so damn dry. The service was very slow and not very welcoming, as well as the room itself being incredibly uninspiring with a very boring atmosphere. Sadly, this has put us off going back.

Exquisite, relaxing, even competitive if you wish, but overall 😎 🤙. It makes one remember how fortunate we are to be able, on occasions, ho indulge and be indulged. Brilliant staff, professional, helpful and willing to share their enthusiasm and experience of the Hotel and it's plentiful offerings. (I've messaged many friends - don't miss this one with photos!!) Thankyou to the all the staff for making a great memory for us, see you soon to make more memories 😊 ❤️

A good setting for a work function. The hotel rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean, although a bright green light by the door detracted from a good nights sleep. For the two nights I stayed the WiFi was not working in the bedrooms The lunchtime buffets and breakfast were excellent but the evening table service fair was less good (acknowledged mass catering) A beautiful setting, feels like you are in deep countryside, but only minutes from the M25, and very friendly staff
