Isle of Eriska Hotel & Spa in Eriska, Argyll — Island Hotel & Spa

Eriska, Argyll

Scotland's Most Coveted Private Island

Where a single bridge crossing changes everything.

There is something quietly transformative about crossing the little bridge onto the Isle of Eriska. One moment you are on the Scottish mainland, the next you have crossed into another world entirely — a private island of ancient woodland, majestic wildlife and extraordinary calm. Scotland's only five-star island hotel, Eriska earns its singular reputation not through pomp, but through that rarest of luxuries: genuine, unhurried space. Space to breathe, to wander, to simply exist without the noise of the everyday world following you across the water.

Yet this is no spartan retreat. The Isle of Eriska wraps its guests in the warmest of embraces, from Michelin-starred dining that elevates the finest Scottish produce into something truly memorable, to an indulgent spa offering ESPA treatments and the cutting-edge ESPA Light Salon. Between sessions, guests might find themselves trying their hand at axe-throwing, learning the quiet art of beekeeping, casting a line into glassy waters, or simply cycling through the island's unspoiled landscape with no particular destination in mind.

For couples seeking seclusion without sacrifice, or discerning travellers who refuse to choose between adventure and elegance, Eriska is a revelation. No ferries, no fuss — just a short drive north of Glasgow and over that small but deeply symbolic bridge. To visit is, as the hotel itself so perfectly puts it, to give yourself the gift of space. Book it. You will wonder how you ever went without it.

What They Say

The. Most. Wonderful. Place. to spend an incredibly relaxed, calm, Christmas. Our Garden Suite was perfect for 2 plus 2 dogs. The frosty scenery and dog walks were sublime. The food was delicious. The staff attentive, friendly and chatty. Nothing was too much trouble. Planning a return visit next year.

This is an absolutely amazing place. We loved it! The people working there are super friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was great, so were all the little spots with fire places where we could have a good glass of wine. We had a 3 course dinner in the restaurant and this was very high quality, well prepared food. I would totally recommend the Eriska hotel and we hope to be back sometime. There is always room for improvement at any place, but don't let the less good reviews (with a lot of first world problems) put you off (as they almost did for me). This is a wonderful place.

Our stay at the Isle of Eriska was truly exceptional, made unforgettable by the outstanding level of service throughout. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel genuinely welcomed, not just as guests, but as individuals. Every member of staff demonstrated a rare combination of professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness that elevated the entire experience. What stood out most was how sincere the care felt. This wasn’t rehearsed hospitality, but a team that clearly takes pride in ensuring guests have an exceptional stay. The atmosphere this creates is one of ease, comfort, and quiet luxury. The Isle of Eriska is a beautiful destination in its own right, but it is the people who truly make it special. Thanks to their exceptional service, our stay was not only relaxing, but genuinely memorable. We look forward to returning. Thank you Rob and Jordan. We appreciate everything you did.

We had a really amazing stay. Beautiful wee island. Make sure you explore and walk up and around. The restaurant is a little over priced for what it is, but overall a great stay! Highly recommend.

Disappointing Stay, Not the Luxury Advertised This hotel has two things going for it: its excellent location and the very attentive staff in the restaurant. Unfortunately, those are the only reasons this isn't a one-star review. The primary issue is the vast difference between the hotel's marketing and reality. The photos online must be heavily edited, because the room we received was worn, dreary, and poorly maintained. To make matters worse, the comforter was covered in what appeared to be dog hair. Comfort was a major problem. The rooms do not have air conditioning. While this might have been manageable in September, the windows only open a few centimeters, and the radiator was stuck on. The control valve wouldn't fully shut off, turning the room into an uncomfortably hot box. The service at the front desk was also subpar. The staff lacked professionalism and conducted a full shift change right in the middle of our check-in process. While the restaurant staff was a bright spot, they couldn't make up for the dreary room, uncomfortable temperature, and unprofessional front desk. We were expecting a luxury experience based on the price and photos, but what we got was a poorly maintained and disappointing stay.
