Buckland, Cotswolds
The Cotswolds, Perfectly Distilled
A thatched fairytale where the fire is always lit and the world can wait.
Tucked into the golden-stone village of Buckland on the edge of the Cotswolds, Mollie's Cottage is the kind of place that exists in the collective imagination of every Anglophile who has ever dreamed of a proper British escape. The thatched roof, the original beams, the roaring fire — it is all here, and it is all exactly as good as you hoped. Three generous double bedrooms sleep six in considerable comfort, while thoughtfully sourced interiors and a pretty, peaceful garden ensure that the fantasy never once tips into pastiche. A locally sourced welcome hamper and a bottle of bubbles upon arrival set the tone immediately: this is a place that takes pleasure seriously.
The details are what elevate Mollie's from charming to genuinely special. Sink into the roll-top bath after a long afternoon walk through the patchwork countryside, Nespresso in hand, and wonder why you ever considered going abroad. The village of Buckland itself is the kind of quiet, unhurried place that makes London feel like another world entirely — and with Oxford just half an hour away, culture is never far should you need it. When evening falls, The Lamb Tavern is a short stroll for a proper pint beside an open fire before returning to your own.
Mollie's works its magic equally on couples seeking a romantic retreat and families in need of a restorative reset. From £305 per night, it represents the Cotswolds at its most seductive — unpretentious, deeply beautiful, and utterly difficult to leave. Book it before someone else does.

What They Say
“Booked a stay for our 8 year anniversary, had been here before and was looking forward to coming again. Our room had a card for us from the team and vouchers for a few free drinks, unexpected but wonderful at that same time. Room was spot on as always, food was incredible, fast and hot. Amber was a little trooper flying around making sure we were all set and Wilfred (H) came correct with desert. Sensational venue, amazing food and wicked team all round. Can't wait to come back.”
“Fabulous time both staying and eating and Mollies Diner - the services throughout the two nights we stayed was amazing and so attentive. The room was great, easy access to everything, with the diner across the way, reception in house with drinks and help available all hours, and the bus stop right outside to go straight into Oxford. We had x2 breakfast and dinner 1 night, and the service was impeccable! Lisa R on the breakfast shift was fabulous both times, very friendly and made the whole experience amazing, especially as we were celebrating a birthday! Thanks all - would highly recommend”
“I went to the diner for some lunch with a friend. The food was delicious and the salted caramel milkshake was just perfection! Good prices, good waiting time for food and great interior. We had Lisa R as our server and she was amazing. She helped me with my dietary requirements, was bubbly, made sure we had everything we need. Overall great customer service and great experience. Highly recommend!”
“We always love staying here - the quietness, airy oak style and ambience, and staff are all very reflective of this 5 star review. The diner is also fantastic, yes in the past we’ve found some of the waiters too rushed and have left us standing for ages waiting for our table booking - however last night, their new addition Benjie was superb, attentive, and extremely positive, great job.”
“The marketing for this place is fantastic- because as soon as you arrive you realise how much of a let down it is. The rooms are absolutely tiny- the bathroom sink is in your bedroom as there is no space for it in the bathroom. The shower is lovely, but only if you want to wash your hair everyday as it is a rainfall shower and if you’re a girl- you know how frustrating this is. The tv was terrible and kept cutting out and turning off every time we tried to cast something to it. You cannot watch normal TV- you can only cast something to it from your phone and this function didn’t work. The food at the diner was awful. The hot dog was drowned in a lukewarm cheese sauce that made you feel ill and the breakfast was diabolical. The coffee was lukewarm and tasted of dishwater so you didn’t want to make the most of the free refills. The scrambled eggs were weirdly sweet in flavour and we were given a small portion with mountains of toast. Honestly would never recommend, be warned of their sponsored TikTok ads”
