The Lygon Arms Hotel in Broadway, Gloucestershire — Historic Inn

Broadway, Gloucestershire

History, Reimagined in Stone

Where Cotswolds charm meets the quiet thrill of impeccable luxury.

Steeped in centuries of history yet polished to a contemporary shine, The Lygon Arms is the Cotswolds at its most seductive. This storied coaching inn in the picture-perfect village of Broadway has been welcoming weary travellers since the 16th century, and today it does so with a level of grace that few properties can match. Rooms range from characterful Main House chambers to tranquil Courtyard retreats, each appointed with the sumptuous bathrooms that have become something of a signature here — the kind you linger in long after you should have been at breakfast.

What They Say

We had our wedding at the Lygon Arms and could not have asked for a more perfect experience. Melissa was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Her support, organisation and attention to detail meant so much to us and we truly appreciate all the hard work she put in behind the scenes to make our day so special. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we felt completely looked after throughout the entire process. Oliver, our server for the evening, was phenomenal. Nothing was too much for him. He combined professionalism, warmth and attentiveness with a hilarious, full-of-personality charm. Just wow! Our guests were absolutely wowed and couldn’t stop talking about him. He genuinely made the evening even more memorable, adding so much to the atmosphere and ensuring everyone had an incredible experience. What a fantastic lad. Thank you to the entire team at the Lygon Arms for helping us create the most perfect day and such wonderful memories — we will treasure them forever.

5 star prices but a 3 star experience. You cannot argue with the history of the place, and it’s a fabulous location, but the experience is let down by mediocre food, and comedic service. It took 4 attempts to order coffee at breakfast. The food came out cold. We were seated at a table next to an open roaring fire for breakfast and dinner ok if you like eating in 30 degree heat. Glasses we were served in bar smelled like dishwasher had not been cleaned. At this level £300+ per night it’s all about attention to detail and it’s sadly lacking. The service unfortunately is as tired at the decor. Better places to stay in the Cotswolds.

We visit Broadway often and usually love coming to the Lygon Arms. However when we visited today - understanding it’s a busy time of year, we were pleased to get a table in the bar area. However the service was really poor. We ordered 5 hot drinks and a packet of crisps as the bar snacks weren’t really suited to my four year old. The initial waiter who took our order didn’t write it down so came back to check it. Then after a long wait the drinks came at different times and one was forgotten. The crisps were forgotten and we asked for additional cold water for a herbal tea which was forgotten. We also asked if there was any colouring for children as my daughter spotted a pen by the bar, this was also then forgotten, however when we asked again, the waiter did bring a little pad and pencils which was a nice touch. We felt that having to chase up most of our order was quite excessive for just hot drinks and a bowl of crisps. After he paid, my partner fed back about the disappointing service, the waiter was disinterested and said there was a sign outside (which either wasn’t there when we came in or we hadn’t seen) to explain no walk ins were available and he didn’t want to listen. However we had already been there for an hour at this point and there was no mention of this previously, we also saw no other walk ins turned away. Lesson learnt we won’t pop in again unless we have booked however after today I’m not sure I’d be happy to pay for such poor disappointing service again!

My family and I booked to have afternoon tea at the Lygon Arms to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Although the staff were friendly there was absolutely no attention to detail. The service was ridiculously slow waiting 40 minutes just for a pot of tea. The sandwiches were mediocre and were not brought out all together. Empty plates were not cleared and there was just a distinct lack of care providing what was meant to be a fantastic experience. We have been for afternoon tea at the Savoy in London which was the experience you would expect. We would be better off going for afternoon tea at a friend’s house rather than the Lygon Arms. Considering the hotel has James Martins name next to it he seriously needs to look at the service provided as quite frankly it’s a joke. I would advise anybody thinking of booking afternoon tea to not do it. Waste of money and we won’t be returning not even for a drink..

Came for food, and it was amazing. Great local pub feel, staff were super friendly which adds a ton of value. The food was awesome, we also tried the deep fried mars bar, first time, not disappointed! Highly recommended for food at the very least.
