St David's, Pembrokeshire
Art, Wind and Welsh Wonder
Where a centuries-old tower becomes the most creatively alive address on the Pembrokeshire coast.
Perched above the wild Pembrokeshire coastline, Twr y Felin is a hotel that defies easy categorisation — and that is precisely its genius. Wales' first contemporary art hotel occupies a handsome 19th-century windmill tower overlooking the shimmering expanse of St Bride's Bay, its ancient bones given vivid new life through over 250 specially commissioned artworks that grace every corridor, lounge and bedroom. From the sculptural ceramics of Adam Buick dotting the grounds to John Cleal's striking works in the Sculpture Garden, the entire property feels like a curated gallery that also happens to offer 39 exceptionally comfortable bedrooms — including the crown jewel Windmill Tower Suite, a magnificent 700 square feet of history and contemporary luxury entwined.

“A special birthday, made even more magical by the amazing staff. Absolutely beautiful hotel.....myself and my husband stayed for three nights over a weekend in Jan 2026 for my 70th birthday, and I couldn't have asked for more. We were greeted by a lovely, smiling receptionist (who I think was possibly called Fiona), who said that we had been given a complimentary upgrade, and explained everything we needed to know about using the hotel facilities, where breakfast would be, checked our reservations for that evening's meal, and the Sunday lunch that we had booked. She then showed us to our room, and explained where everything was etc. We had a balcony with a table and two chairs on it, with a lovely view of St Brides Bay. The food we had was amazing, for both breakfasts, lunch, and dinner, and at the the end our first evening's dinner, I was given a birthday present - a lovely wooden Welsh Love Spoon. On returning to our room after dinner, there was a birthday card on one of the tables, and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. Our room was booked on a 3 for the price of 2 offer, but we did not feel that the service we got was any less less than any full paying customer, and we would highly recommend a stay at Twr Y Felin Hotel.”
“Words simply are not enough to describe how outstanding we found this hotel to be. From the moment we arrived, the attentiveness and genuine care shown by the staff to us was exemplary. They went above and beyond to make our stay as special as possible while we celebrated a milestone birthday. We received the most warming of welcomes. We were touched to find a birthday card and a chilled bottle of fizz waiting in our room on arrival, such a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the entire stay. Every member of staff we encountered was of the highest calibre: attentive, respectful, and dedicated to upholding the very best standards. The surroundings are every bit as beautiful as the service, and the combination made our visit truly memorable. This was not just a stay, but an experience we will always cherish. We will definitely make a return visit. We cannot recommend Twr y Felin Hotel highly enough.”
“Such a beautiful hotel! We had a spacious, very well appointed dog-friendly ground-floor room with large patio doors onto its own little patio/garden area. Our dog was royally catered for and loved her bed. I wish we could say the same for our beds, though. Being both of us somewhat arthritic we didn’t find the sleep comfort that we needed. The bathroom was sumptuous! I would have appreciated a grab handle on the huge bath as I did struggle to get out of it but I loved the room’s ambience and design. It’s a shame that footfall in the room above was noisily audible and it wasn’t possible to have fresh air into the room at night without opening the patio door. Service, however, was exceptional. We didn’t have an evening meal, but the breakfast selection was excellent.”
“The hotel and room were very impressive as was the food in the restaurant. Sadly a few small details let it down. Firstly, the service in the restaurant seemed lackluster after our mains and it took an age to get a dessert ordered in a high end restaurant with very few dining. Secondly, on the morning we were leaving, we tried to use the shower but it was broken and could not get the hot water to work (bath worked fine). Given the price of the rooms, you would think this basic functionality is checked ahead of customers arriving.”
“If you haven’t been to St David’s, go. If you haven’t visited the cathedral, you should. One of Wales’ smallest cities (there is also St Asaph further north - and another cathedral). It is located close to the sea. Its size is deceptive - as you will find if you go for a walk along the coast path that winds between St David’s and Ramsey island. Hope for good weather - the views are memorable. One thing is for certain - you will come back again.”
