What they say

The Upper House is a lovely manor uphill in Barlaston where you can relax and enjoy the countryside. The rooms were tidy. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of fitted carpets in terms of cleanliness. Some elements were in need of replacement or adjustments, but that's what one might expect from an old house like this one. The atmosphere in the hotel itself is fantastic, especially the smoke room with the fireplace. Service was really nice! Everyone was helpful and kind. The location is the biggest plus on the list. It's right next to the Downs Banks nature reserve, which is perfect for a nice walk. Also the view from the dining/breakfast room is awesome. For people who like cats: we met both Cookie and Bella. Bella is the hotel cat (black and white), Cookie (black) is from around the block. They can't stand each other, but they're both extremely sweet

i travel most days of the week for work and am very happy I have found this hotel. The rooms are nice and warm and well appointed, all of the staff from receptionist, waiters, cleaners and even the cat was very polite and helpful. The food was fantastic home made and good value. this is top of my list when I return to the area in a few weeks time. Thank you all for a very good hotel it makes all the difference for us business travelers. Genuinely the best I have had the pleasure to stop in for Quite a few Months.

Stayed for the night as a family member was having a special birthday meal there. What a lovely place. Everything just perfect from the warm welcome when we arrived to the first class breakfast on our departure. The bedroom was spotless and cosy. The birthday meal was delicious with excellent service always with a smile and the open fire and comfy chairs in the snug made the perfect place to end the evening. The Upper House is a gem -we'll definately be back. Thank you to all who made our visit so enjoyable.

The whole experience was truly wonderful. The setting/hall was amazing. The decorations, the tree , lighting everything was magical we all felt very festive. The food and service was second to none and staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were welcoming and very cozy. There was adequate “supplies in the room. The only downside was the room we stayed in, The Beech room was directly above the reception and with people outside waiting for taxis/lifts home we didn’t get to sleep until after 2pm, maybe wait inside in future and have some respect for those staying over. The breakfast in the morning was very much needed however not the wait for it, over 45mins after ordering. Some people who came in after us were served and left before we received ours. All in all everyone agreed it was an amazing evening, we stayed last year as well and again really enjoyed the stay.

Stayed for a night and what a top choice this hotel was. The grounds the hotel sits in are just stunning. So peaceful, and welcoming. Bedroom was modern and cosy, super clean. Each room is named not numbered so already feels different to other hotels. We had a classic room and for 1 night was perfect, small but comfy and bathroom had nice big shower with both rainfall and wand heads. Hot water straight away. Friends who live in Stoke came for dinner with us at the hotel and were just as impressed as they said they didn't know the hotel was there ! Has a lovely bar area as well as a beautiful old school lounge to relax in after dinner. Think old chesterfields, wingback chairs, leather rocking chairs and a super lovely log fire. We had been informed there was a function on and that some bedrooms may be able to hear the music, but our room was at the front of the hotel and all we heardwas the peace and tranquility of the wildflife in the beautiful woods and grounds. Staff super friendly. Dinner was divine. Really well presented and good price. Breakfast following morning was included in room cost and was just as well cooked and presented. 5 minutes from wedgewood for visiting. 10 minutes from a34 and very easy access. Will be our first choice for our return visit.
