What they say
“We loved staying in this charming grand old house. The staff were all lovely and it was delightful to chat to Jasper, the owner who has had the hotel in his family for all his life. The house is full of wonderful quirky items. We enjoyed the drawing too. And lounge for playing cards when it was raining. Our favorite hotel in Scotland. Good to have vegan options too.”
“The Viewfield house is stunning! The staff is so available and accommodating, they did have some vegan options for breakfast which was really nice and even did some takeaway breakfast for us when we were heading out early.”
“We've returned to Viewfield in Portree several times over the years, and each stay truly feels like a highlight of our year. The house is set in a stunning location, and every corner reflects a genuine love for detail—there's always something new to notice and appreciate with each visit. The rooms are spacious yet wonderfully cosy, offering the perfect place to unwind after a day spent hiking and exploring all the beauty Skye has to offer. Iona and Jasper are always welcoming, and the entire team consistently goes the extra mile to make us feel at home. Portree is just a 15 minutes walk away and has lots of nice wee shops, pubs and individual coffee shops. There are also playgrounds if you come with young children like we do. We absolutely love coming here and hope to return sooner rather than later. Viewfield is a special place, and we wholeheartedly recommend it on every level.”
“We spent four nights at the Viewfield Hotel in Portree and couldn't have felt more welcome. The hotel, with its over 200-year-old history, is full of charm and character—it's like stepping back in time in the best possible way. Every member of the staff was incredibly kind and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. What truly made our stay unforgettable was Jesper, the owner, who personally greeted us every morning. He took the time to chat with us and offer fantastic tips for exploring the Isle of Skye. We've never experienced that kind of hospitality anywhere else. If you're looking for a place with heart, history, and genuinely warm people, Viewfield Hotel is it. We can’t recommend it highly enough!”
“I was recently traveling around Scotland for a month, and this was one of my favorite accommodations!! Don't let the taxidermy scare you away. lol! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. I stayed in the "Cosy Scots Double" and it was perfect for me traveling alone. The room was beautifully decorated and the shower had great water pressure and consistent temps. The bed dips just enough to feel like a nice warm hug. Very comfortable! The common areas were also very nice, and I was able to use the dining room while I worked remotely. The WIFI is excellent! They even prepared a packed breakfast for me one morning as I was heading out on a very early hike. There's plenty of parking, and the location is great for heading off on day-trips. Also - the mushroom and leek pie for dinner was DELICIOUS! I can't wait to return someday!”
