What they say
“Have eaten here several times in the last year, some evenings and some lunchtimes and have not been disappointed. I am surprised by some of the negative reviews. Each time the service was excellent and very friendly. Last week we were in the conservatory on a rare sunny day. What a lovely atmosphere. The three meals were all well cooked and presented. I had beef bourgingon which was delicious. My only reservation was that I didn't really need bread as well as potatoes ! All courses for the three of us were very well received. We are also Diamond members so the value was great. We will keep coming back to enjoy good food in beautiful historic surroundings.”
“My wife and I had lunch here with my son and his wife just before Xmas. The food was really good and plentiful with a varied menu, good vegetarian and GF options. The service was quick, the staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely old style bar with real fires and quirky details. More than adequate parking. Be aware that the footnote on the menu says vegetables are served 'al dente'. They are 'molto al dente' so say when you order if you prefer a bit less bite.”
“Fantastic hearty food — you can always guarantee fresh ingredients, home-cooked dishes, and superb flavour. Not to mention a wonderful welcome and great staff. I’ve been eating here for years and it has never once let me down. A superb location too — perfect to combine with a walk in one of the most scenic areas around. Thank you!”
“Went for a drink after a lovely morning on the river canoeing with my boyfriend, the place was absolutely beautiful. Had a lovely chat with the staff and the owner Jonno who both seemed very friendly and happy to work in such a stunning environment. The rooms are full of history and character so we would highly recommend, to anyone stopping by, to tour the premises along with the picturesque gardens. Faye the bartender was very friendly and had a lovely chat with her. Prices were extremely reasonable. Location is just by the river with lots of walks around. Can’t comment on the quality of food but the menu looked lovely and what we saw of the food coming out of the kitchens made our mouths water. Will definitely be returning, and we are planning on invited my parents down from far up north for a meal here soon. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”
“Been here a few times for Sunday lunch over the past year as we live nearby. There are closer places that do roasts, but I’d always chose to come here as they aren’t too pretentious and do decent size portions with loads of veg to share. Also a couple of points important to me… the option for a side of pigs in blankets (a must for a roast all year round, not just Christmas) and reasonably thick gravy too, so many places do such watery gravy, not here thankfully 😋. Puddings are well sized too. Keep doing what you do!”
