Yorebridge House in Bainbridge, North Yorkshire — Country House Hotel

Bainbridge, North Yorkshire

School's Out, Luxury's In

Where the Yorkshire Dales whisper and the hot tubs never cool.

Tucked into the folds of Wensleydale, where drystone walls dissolve into open moorland and the River Ure murmurs quietly below, Yorebridge House is the kind of place that reorders your priorities entirely. This beautifully converted Victorian grammar school — now a five-star, three AA Rosette boutique retreat — wears its history lightly, its characterful bones dressed in individually styled rooms that feel both indulgent and deeply personal. Fluffy robes, spectacularly framed Dales views, and — in the suites that truly earn their keep — private outdoor hot tubs steaming gently into the Yorkshire air. Arrive as a couple in need of quiet, and leave as something altogether more restored.

The kitchen is the beating heart of Yorebridge House, and Head Chef Dan Shotton's set-price menus are a serious reason to make the journey north. Culinary excellence here isn't a boast but a standard, and the dining room — intimate, unhurried, quietly assured — is the sort that foodies bookmark and return to. Whether you're settling in for a full tasting menu with a bottle of Taittinger, lingering over a Sparkling Sunday lunch, or exploring an all-inclusive winter stay complete with unlimited house drinks, the ethos is the same: more is more, and pleasure is the point.

The package offerings here are genuinely tempting — a three-nights-for-two deal extends the magic without stretching the conscience, while the 'Elope in Style' option speaks to a hotel that understands romance in its fullest sense. Condé Nast Johansens clearly agrees, having recently bestowed an Award for Excellence on this corner of the Dales. Book a hot tub suite, clear the diary, and let Wensleydale do the rest.

What They Say

Yorebridge House was everything we dreamed of for our intimate wedding and more. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely cared for. Fiona, our wedding coordinator, was truly wonderful, calm, kind, and genuinely devoted to making our day unforgettable. Her warmth and attention to every detail allowed us to relax and simply enjoy each precious moment. Every member of staff was exceptional, from the reception team to the bar staff and the waiters, all of whom treated us and our guests with such genuine care and kindness. The rooms were absolutely beautiful, filled with charm and elegance, and the whole house carried a magical, romantic atmosphere. Our guests were captivated, and the memories we made here will stay with us forever. Yorebridge House will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Great venue, full of character, beautiful surroundings, wonderful rooms, perfectly clean, great food, great service but....... RIDICULOUS DRINKS PRICES. £18 double rum and coke, £14 small glass of wine, £12 pint, £10 shot of tequila, £4 soft drinks. Take your own alcohol and mixers and avoid the bar. Other than that, amazing!

Our 2nd visit here. Stayed in The Barn last time probably about 8 years ago. We booked St Jean which was lovely, large bathroom & hotub outside. We booked 1 night on the ultimate experience package & 2 nights DBB. Unfortunately after the 2nd night there was an issue with the room & the hotel moved us next door to The Rahmoune room which was very kind of them. The staff are lovely & all seem to enjoy their work. Shout out to both Dan's for stunning food & impeccable drink service. Some will say this place is expensive but it is worth every penny & why shouldn't you spoil yourself once in a while. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings with lots to see & do nearby. New owners took over earlier this year & are doing a great job. We have our loyalty card now so will see you soon 🤞.

Spent three days here during a wedding party who took the whole of the hotel and grounds for the event. The rooms were wonderful we had one with a hot tub outside next to the river. The food was first class. The service was amazing I would highly recommend this. They were so flexible. I even produced 50 bottles of wine I had made myself and they were happy that we consumed these along with the lovely wines that came with the meals. The food was splendid indeed. Tjr wedding couple had a marquee set up outside and the wedding was outside in the meadow with a band playing at night time. On the third day they even provided a bbq which really hit the spot. The wedding meal was amazing with locally sourced produce. The details of how great it was are to numerous to mention. A great whisky selections and the bar prices were very reasonable

It's only our first night of three here, but goodness me it's lovely! Quick few words in the room and food so far! The room is a really nice and well thought out split between a comfy, luxury bedroom and a massive luxury bathroom. It's just perfect. Dinner; we had a few courses and it's just a superior level of flavours, techniques and textures. No point in naming any specific dishes to try as the menu changes with the seasons and good ingredients. Just really nicely done food that's worth a drive to get to.
